Renault Clio II phase II 2001 (Universal Hobbies)

Całkowicie przeprojektowano deskę rozdzielczą a do wykończenia użyto lepszych materiałów.

W ramach liftingu z jesieni 2001, zmieniono nazwy wersji wyposażeniowych z dotychczas stosowanych (RL, RN, RT itp.) na francuskojęzyczne (Authentique, Expression, Dynamique itp.).

Brawo!

Mocnym punktem modelu jest też wnętrze. Dobrze odwzorowane i ładne kolorystycznie, idealnie współgra z kolorem nadwozia. Ogólnie, modelik pozbawiony jest wyraźnych wad. Prezentuje przyzwoity poziom i stanowi wartościowy dodatek do mojej kolekcji.

********

Is 3 years a lot? It depends on your perspective, but in the motoring world it’s quite a long period of time. A period, during which a car can get old, or at least start to fall behind the competition. Such a fate was met by Clio II. This popular small car debuted in 1998, but with the influx of modern, refined cars of the competition, such as the Opel Corsa C, Skoda Fabia or VW Polo IV, the French hatchback, three years after its debut, lost its appeal. This was particularly noticeable on the inside – compared to the bulky, well put together cockpits of the rivals, Clio’s interior was plastic, austere, almost tacky.

The French introduced the necessary updates in 2001. The main addressee of these changes was of course the interior. The dashboard was completely redesigned and better quality materials were used to finish it. In fact, the quality was so much better, that Clio II phase II was instantly considered as one of the best models in its class for interior finish quality. A huge step up in the hierarchy, you must admit.

The body was also modified. The previous one didn’t necessarily look outdated compared to the rivals, but it didn’t fit-in with the bold design of Renault models from the beginning of XXI century (think back to the Avantime or Laguna II). Post-facelift Clio was distinguished by a new front fascia with large headlights and also redesigned rear lights, boot lid and rear bumper. Rather small, but noticeable changes.

As part of the autumn 2001 facelift, the names of specification levels were changed from letter combinations previously used in most European markets (RL, RN, RT etc.), to French words (Authentique, Expression, Dynamique etc.). Under the bonnet, a new range of 1.5 dCi common rail diesels arrived, with three power outputs: 65hp, 82hp and 100hp.

Clio II received another facelift in 2004 (phase III), with the next generation model being introduced only a year later.

About the miniature
In the post about Peugeot 206 (you can read it here), I wrote that apart from the "two-oh-six", I bought a few other models from JarekS from motoshowminiatura. That's one of them. Second generation Clio after the first facelift (phase II in Renault's nomenclature) in the Privilege spec from Universal Hobbies.

The miniature makes a good impression. Clio's proportions are carefully replicated, whilst the layer of metallic paint is clean and even. The manufacturer absolutely aced it with the headlamps. They got that depth of real ones and they're without the irritatingly visible joining pins. Well done!

This model's strong point is also the interior. Finely replicated and nicely coloured, it beautifully matches the colour of the body. Overall, the model lacks any noticeable flaws. It is of a decent standard and is a valuable addition to my collection.
