Skoda 1000 MB

Skoda 1000 MB (letters ‘MB’ coming from the initials of Mlada Boleslav, Skoda’s hometown) was first presented in April 1964, as the successor for the Skoda Octavia and was the first model of the long line of rear-engined Skodas. The decision to produce this type of car was made in the 1955, with the first prototypes being developed in 1956. The engine that powered the 1000 MB (type 990) was a 988cc (1-litre), 4-cylinder, overhead valve (OHV) unit that produced 44 bhp (33 kW). It was water-cooled, with an aluminium cylinder block and cast iron cylinder head. Top speed was 120 km/h, while the average fuel consumption was 7l/100 km (36 mpg).

In April 1966 a more powerful version was introduced (1000 MB type 721) with a 48bhp engine, and a top speed of 125 km/h. At the same time the Skoda 1000MB de Luxe was introduced. It had the more powerful engine and better trim than the standard 1000MB. Other versions: the 1000 MBG de Luxe (Type 710) and the 1000 MBX de Luxe (Type 990T: a 2-door coupe) were also introduced in 1966. In 1968, the Skoda 1100 MB de Luxe (Type 715) and Skoda 1100 MBX de Luxe (Type 723) were introduced, both with a new 52 bhp engine. A prototype version of the 1000 MB estate was also introduced, but never made it into the production stage. In the 1964-1969 period, a total of 443 141 units of all versions were made. The Skoda 100 became the successor of this model.

Podstawową wersję Skody 1000 MB (typ 990) napędzał silnik o pojemności 988 cm³ i mocy 42 KM. Silnik chłodzony cieczą, posiadał aluminiowy kadłub (nowoczesne rozwiązanie jak na tamte lata) oraz głowicę silnika odlewaną z źeliwa. Prędkość maksymalna wynosiła 120 km/h, a średnie spalanie 7l/100km.

W kwietniu 1966 roku zaprezentowano mocniejszą wersję (1000 MB typ 721) z 48-konnym silnikiem i prędkością maksymalną 125 km/h. W tym samym czasie zadebiutowała Skoda 1000 MB de Luxe. Posiadała ona nowy, mocniejszy silnik oraz lepsze wyposażenie. Pozostałe wersje: 1000 MBG de Luxe (typ 710) i 1000 MBX de Luxe (typ 990T: 2-drzwiowe coupe) również zaprezentowano w 1966 r. W roku 1968, przedstawiono Skody 1100 MB de Luxe (typ 715) oraz 1100 MBX de Luxe (typ 723), obie z nowym, 52-konnym silnikiem. W trakcie produkcji zaprezentowano też prototyp wersji kombi, lecz nigdy nie została ona skierowana do produkcji seryjnej. W latach 1964-1969 wyprodukowano w sumie 443 141 sztuk wszystkich wersji modelu 1000 MB. Następcą została Skoda 100.

FSO Warszawa 201F

The production of the Warszawa 201F began in 1960, but the work on the first prototypes began in the late 1950s. The car was based on the Warszawa Pick-up, with the only difference being the rear of the car – resembling an estate. The car had 2 doors and the fuel tank was positioned under the driver’s seat. Warszawa 201F also had a strengthened suspension and its load capacity was 400 kg. The car was available in 2 main versions: a sanitary version used mainly as an ambulance (with glass windows in the rear part) and a cargo version. The car was modified a couple of times (the successive models were called the 203F and the 204F), before its production finished in 1965, when the Warszawa estate was released.

Renault Clio mk1

Renault Clio I (its name deriving from the Greek muse of history – Clio) was first introduced in June 1990 at the Paris Motor Show, with sales starting shortly after. The car replaced the ageing Renault 5 in the company’s line-up (although 5’s production continued until 1996). In the same year the car has won the European Car of the Year title. Clio used many of the Renault 5’s underpinnings such as the suspension and the floorpan, however they have been significantly redesigned. At first the engine range included 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines as well as 1.7 and 1.9 diesels. In 1991 a sportier version of the Clio was introduced, called the 16S (16V in most markets outside of France). Two years later, in 1993, Renault has introduced the top-of-the-range Clio Williams. The limited edition of cars over 5,000 units in total) was powered by a 2.0 16V petrol engine. In 1994 the facelifted Clio phase 2 has been introduced. Most noticeable was the change in the front grille from two metal ribs to a single colour-coded slat grille and also the change in the rear bumpers and lights. There were also some other minor changes in the interior design and safety equipment. The ageing 1.1 petrol engine was removed from the range.

The second modification occurred in 1996 with the introduction of Clio phase 3. The Phase 3 has different, more rounded headlights, incorporating the turn signal in the unit with the headlight. The bonnet curved more around the edges of the lights. The tailgate incorporated a third brake light and a new script "Clio" name badge, following the same typeface as contemporary Renaults. Some mechanical improvements were also made, which improved the car’s safety and fuel-efficiency.

In 1998 the production of the Clio for European markets has ended, and the next generation was introduced. During the 8 years of its life, Clio has consistently been one of the best selling cars in Europe, with a total of 4 million units manufactured.

2014 - Summary

I have never done this before, but considering my blog is entering its 4th year, I thought the time has come to finally do it - the first ever Summary of the year.

2014 has been a good year for both my collection and the blog itself. 13 new models have entered my collection last year, some of which have already been posted on the blog. The ones which haven't made it online yet (mostly due to my busy schedule), will be appearing this year, so stay tuned!

Last year I have also added a few sub-pages to my blog, so it is more sophisticated now :) I invite you especially to visit the "Gallery" page, where all of the more artistic photos will be displayed.

I also took part in some online blog-competitions. For most of them with moderate success, however a moment of pride came in June when my blog managed to win one of competitions for the best blog of the week "Najlepszy Blog Tygodnia". The picture of it is below.

The Top 10 Most Viewed Cars of 2014

I also thought it would be interesting to make use of the Blogger's function to give exact pageviews figures for each post and provide you for the first time with the top 10 most viewed car models on my blog.
